Technical Difficulties

Mom's funny sometimes, not usually on purpose. As soon as she has to something remotely technical to do on the laptop at home she breaks out in a flop sweat. As each window comes up asking various tech questions, she becomes extremely grouchy. We don't even offer to help, or we might be grouched at.

I guess this wouldn't be that funny, heck I would be nervous too, but she's one of the main people at work everyone comes to have their laptops fixed. Yep, that's right, she's thought of as competent, and an authority on just these types of technical things at work.

She admits to us that she just pokes around calmly, hoping some random thing fixes it. She knows the program she trains other people how to use, but other than that it is mostly luck and a good memory. She feels fearless she says because if she can't figure it out, she just sends it out to Technical Support for the real heavy lifting.

  1. Hmmm, maybe I could help. I like to paw around with stuff...although mom says I think I'm more helpful than I am.

  2. i had to upgrade my version of word press and the theme i was using (after being reminded for a year or so). it took several hours of "poking" around the settings of my ISP account to figure it out. and i have many years of tech support experience.

give mom a scratch under the chin for getting it done!

  10. ha ha, that's funny Fin. But we bet your mom is more savy than you think. Maybe she gets nervous because HER laptop is more personal than someone elses.

  14. Our Mum am pretty clueless - if something needs doing she can't be methodical she just panics and the only thing she will try is to switch it off and switch it on again - if it's still the same call a friend.

  15. Our mum isn't technical either but she tries to fix things herself by trial and error cuz our dad doesn't have a clue. She usually gets it sorted, but if it was major, she would probably scream. The only thing dad does on it is play poker. He even used to ask mum to shut it down when he finished.

  16. Your mom's technical support of others sounds like the actual technical support at my job - the people paid to do it! Our mom is pretty technical, and our dad is an IT guy, so you would think we would be all set. But nope, still have problems! I think us cats need to start our own cat techincal support or something!

Slow, steady, methodical. My mommy sais your mommy is one smart and talented artistic cookie.

So she is a cookie, I suggests you gives her a lick-lick!

  25. If all else fails, I just lay down next to the hard drive. It's one of the warmest, most comfy, napping spots in the townhouse.
