Whipped Wednesday

Mom here. I know some of you must think that Fin has me pretty well wrapped around her paw, at first I was going to deny it, but I have to admit you're pretty much right.

When it comes to the multi-meals, I have noticed that when I put out a big full portion of food with her hyperthyroid medicine tucked into a pill pocket, she eats around it. She is a unrepentant gravy-licker. So she gets a small first meal to make sure she eats the pill, and then she gets the remaining portion of her meal.

I was also going to say that she wasn't always this spoiled, and she wasn't, at least not to the same degree. She has always woke me up at the crack of dawn like the day depended on it. As a younger cat I felt fully justified in telling her to go eat her dry food however (I can hear the cries of injustice throughout the land).

As my girl has grown older, I have to admit that I feel like she deserves some extra spoiling. Extra treats help keep her a bit plumper, and extra food helps keep meat on those granny bones. I give her the really stinky food which she loves instead of the other kind.

When I think about refusing her my time, I remember that my time with her is no longer limitless. Every opportunity I have to give her snuggles and love is a moment I will cherish when she leaves us someday.

Don't we all wanted to be treated that way in our golden years by the ones we love?

  1. So, so sweet. I'm not sure who is luckier to have who. GG and I love you both.

Pee S - Your comment tonight made Glogirly giggle. Seems she already has reupholstery plans for that annoying canine. Cod only knows what she is up to.

  3. The older my human gets, the more she seems to want to just be left alone! Fortunately, she does not think we kitties feel the same way!!

(Although I confess, sometimes I do feel just that way!)

  6. I think being guilty of indulging a granny cat a little is far better than the opposite. You are so right: how nice if human can expect that sort of treatment in their old age as well.

  12. That was such a nice post. We love the fact that you are giving Fin all that special attention. We have an older cat here too and Mom is always fussing over her. She gets special fuds too and all day lone. It just isn't fair. Fin is so lucky to have such a great home. She looks great for a granny cat. Take care.

  14. This is such a wonderful post, I too have an older cat who was a runt and is kitten sized so everyone thinks she is young. She is a little skinny with the progression they get with age and I spoil the heck out of her for the very same reasons. She deserves to be pampered (the other two in the house have to wait a decade....ok, thats a lie, I spoil them too, but not as much). After all, the golden rule says do onto others, not just people. Have a great week!!

I have lost four kitties to old age! Its tough seeing them get so old and frail after almost a lifetime of pouncing and playing! Enjoy your time with Finn and keep posting! Her fans love her to!!!

  17. I can't agree more. I think you wrote it perfectly. Cherish every moment.

Cosmo is lying on my hands right now and making it very difficult for me to type, but heck, it makes him (and me) happy. So why not. :)

That's so true. I tell my heart cat Belle every day how lucky I am to have her in my life. I wish she could outlive ME but it probably won't happen that way, and all I can do is enjoy the time we have to the fullest.

  20. It is the same here as even when she is more busy with everything we spend a lot of time together. Mom loves when I get clingy and has been giving me a lot of treats lately as she can not resist the kitchen look of need food. Love cherishing the time together.

  24. I agree totally! Mocha has had several health issues and is now almost 13. Every day, every snuggle is a gift. You are a good "KittyMom".

  25. Mum does the same with Hannah's medication - only her pill is squashed down to dust on her dish and a small of very wet food mixed with it. After that's all gone she gets her "proper" meal and if she doesn't eat her "pill meal" she gets treated to some of mum's bestest naughty words!!
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx

  26. Cory's mom here:

I completely understand wanting to spend quality time with your beloved Finny.

I admit I got a bit misty when I picked up Cory at the vet today after her dental work. The paperwork said she is 5 years 7 months old! Wasn't she just a baby kitten yesterday?

Time flies, so enjoy every minute with your baby.
