What The?

Saturday I decided I wasn't in any mood for my Fin Pocket treats. The crunchy center seemed a bit too crunchy for my taste. A grannycat has a right to choose to eat a yummy treat or leave it behind. Well you'd have thought I had refused to eat at all based on my parents reaction.

My parents were stressed when I repeatedly left my morning treat behind, and completely freaked when I repeatedly left my second treat of the day behind.

Next thing I knew they were plotting away in the kitchen, talking under their breaths, looking over at me, and then quickly looking away again. Very suspicious. Next thing that I knew I was belly-up in Mom's arms. I was prepared to flail at the first sign of scissors, as this is the typical de-knotting position, but instead Dad and Mom snuggled me between them. Dad gave some excellent neck scritches, and then things took a turn.

I mewed my delight to Dad to say thanks for the pets. I would swear he threw something down my throat when I mewed, and then Mom blew on my face. I was so shocked I gulped whatever it was down in surprise.

What the Hell-o-kitty was that about?!?

Mom placed me on the floor and I couldn't help but notice how pleased they looked with themselves. I think I need to be vigilant friends.

::Mom distracts kitty readers with catnip mouse:: Fin's Pockets are really Pill Pockets and the center is her hyperthyroid pill. She has started to randomly refuse her treat after a year and it's freaking us out. We finally had to take matters into our hands. We were shocked at how easy it went down, but I think she's suspicious now. Please send good thoughts she goes back to the treats.

  2. Niko and Cloud: Hi Fin, yes, your parents are very strange..ooh Mom gave us a toy! Bye!
Mom, whispering to Fin's Mom: Maybe you could try cheese to hide the pill, or I think there is more than one type of pill pocket out there. Texas' pill pockets were soft, not crunchy.

  3. Hey Momo, go and see what I put in your tent.

That's a good one, Meg. Will try it next time. Momo is terrible even with the cheese pill pockets.

  4. Fin, we are sending vibes to you to start taking your treats!! Mom had a kitty for 15 years that had to take that pill. She didn't like it much but she finally gave in thank goodness because I think mom would have just went into a major panic! Lots of love, Holly and mom

  5. Well, if der gonna throw stuff down yoor throat and blow in yoor face (which is really rude) we'd just go back to eating da treat instead.

  6. We think you should eat your treats again, Finny, although your parents did a good job on their own with your pill...Good luck sweet friends...kitty kisses...Calle, Halle, Sukki

  7. Awww Fin... I was thinking about you the other day when I shaved my Bella... which sadly was much as you described... a lot of sneaking. She's almost forgiven me.

(Sidenote: I didn't give her the horrible lion clip, so don't hate me either!)

  8. Uh-oh. No more treat tricks, huh? (That's our mom talking.) Jack here: I have to take 3 pills twice a day. Mom grabs be, holds me like a baby, kisses up to me (hrrmmph), says "open up" while prying at my jaws, then crams those pills down. Just like she owns me! How long will this treatment continue?

  9. Fin, those tricks are really not that big a deal. If you lived here, you would not even have a choice about pills - you would get picked up and have something tossed down your throat before you knew what was going on. My human has mad pilling skillz.

P.S. Watch your P.O. Box mail later this week or early next.

  10. Fin's Mom: does Fin have to have her pill on an empty stomach and avoid protein/milk products for an hour like human thyroid medicine? If so then cheese wouldn't work. But maybe an allowable treat just after the pilling procedure as reward for being good?
Fin, girl, pill pockets are the easiest way to go. Trust me.

  15. Hey Fin,

If WE had a treat named after us WE'D eat it every day!! Heck, we eat our regular treats every day!!

  16. Mum to E&F: Eric, Flynnie, I have just put down some nice fresh nip for you, go and see.
Mum to Fin's Mom: What a brilliant idea, I must try it on Eric as he is impossible to pill. No vet has even managed it yet and he has to have everything by injection or spot on.
E&F to Fin: Strange, we only had nip yesterday and now we just got some more. Very strange! We think it was very rude of your mum to blow in your face. Did she think you looked too hot?

  17. Sounds like your mom and dad really pulled a fast one on you, Fin!

  18. Maybe you should just eat the treats next time!

  19. ::chirp:: Catnip mousie? Let me have it. Let me bat it!

Cory's mom- Good one...I've never tried blowing on their furry little faces to get them to swallow a pill!

  20. Annie is hyper-t but can't be pilled, so I use the transdermal gel inside the ear tip and in her armpits too, to give her ears a break. If Fin stops eating the pill pockets, see about switching to the gel.

  21. We hope your mom hadn't had a lot of garlic before she blew in your face Fin. Watch out these mums can be very devious - mum crushes my pills and puts then in my favourite food - she thinks I don't know - poor deluded human!

  23. Fin, please start eating your pill pockets again. It is really important that you get them. Sounds like Mom and Dad had a good plan to get the pill down. Our Mom laughed out loud but well done. Lots of purrs coming that Fin will go back to the treats.
    Have a great week.

  25. Hey, Fin. The lady with the yellow hair gives me one those Fin Pocket Treats everyday before I go to bed at night and I eat it up!! I love Fin Treats!! But only right before bedtime! Now she's been giving me a Fin Treat before I eat dinner. Hmmmm...I don't do Fin Treats with dinner. So y'know what?? She's been opening my mouth and putting something in there before I even have a chance to protest!!

Fin, I think you should stick with the Fin Treats.

  27. Fin's mom - My Whiskers took his thyroid pill for a couple of years in a pill pocket - any flavor - before he decided he would not eat them anymore - they were soft and spongy so I started using much less around the pill and putting it with other treats and that worked. What happened to us was that he had developed an enlarged heart and we didn't know - keep on a look out for this.......and do eat your treats Fin.

  28. Those Fin Treats are so special that we think you should keep eating them. We know you'll make your Mom and Dad really happy if you do.

  29. I have 3 days left of my antibiotics left and I tell ya Fin, every morning mom pries open my mouth big & wide and tosses that sucker right down the hatch. She thought of pill pockets but I can be rather picky so she went with the direct route since it's short term.

  31. Fin! We hopes that you will take your medicine! But I understands! I have never had medicine before! But if my humans did that to me I wouldn't trust them! But I know your mom and dad loves you lots and lots!!!

  32. We fink they did sumfin sneaky ~ but we bet if yoo ask they will say it was for yoor own good. They always say that. It's annoying!

  33. Geeze! They get you one way or another. I'd go back to the treats if I were you finny!

ps~ The PM LOVED your book!! I told her she has to read it to us next.

  34. Come on Finny. You're losing your edge. Don't let them trick you like that again!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Do those things come in other flavors? Maybe a change of taste would help.

  36. Fin, a treat is a treat! Don't turn down the good stuff.

  37. "What the Hell-o-kitty" indeed fin. HA! i'm using that line at some point.

hey, come over to my blog and check out my sister's cat fence. you'd appreciate the roomy accommodations.

  38. Just take the treat, Fin, if it makes your humans happy. It's better then upsetting them. They get so moody if you don't accept their treats.-Barney

Oh, Barney, Chance has your toy. (Barney runs off to beat down the kitten)
Barney's mom-Good trick with the blow on the face. I've never thought of that. I usually had to fight with them. Good luck with the pilling, Meg. I hope it does Fin good.

  39. My mom makes a pill pocket "truffle" by crushing a Temptations treat and rolling the pocket in it. Crunchy (and sooo delicious) on the outside, then chewy and crunchy on the inside. I like!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh noes, trickery! Oh well, you got a few scritches in the deal...don't yowl too loudly.

Pill Pockets come in two different flavors, but you probably already know that--chicken and salmon. You could switch flavors each day?

There is also this stuff, but we can't say how tasty it is
