Mr Dutch has been losing some weight recently but all the standard tests had turned up nothing. Until a few days ago he was showing no signs of illness, but now he is not eating much, has an abscess on his side, and seems to be in pain. A trip to the Vet has come back with a preliminary diagnosis of Mast Cell Disease. He has been given an antibiotic to try to clear up the infection but if it is Mast Disease it is a temporary fix and he may need to be helped to the bridge.
Mr Dutch is a handsome boy who is built from naughtiness, so naturally I admire him greatly. If you could send some comforting purrs and healing thoughts his way we would appreciate it. If you have any knowledge of this illness that might help Aunt Jenny please let us know. Thanks so much.
The handsome and lovably naughty Mr Dutch |
We are sorry to hear of Mr Dutch's troubles! Mast cell disease? Well, that can be complicated, but most don't have a very good prognosis. Sometimes what looks like a tiny mole can spread internally. Here's a link for more info written in an easy to understand way.

ReplyDeleteOh we are so sorry that your cousin Mr Dutch is so sick and we are sending him tons of purrs and prayers. Our doggie cousin has Mast Cell disease - there are different types and so depending on the type will depend on the treatments. Our cousin has the not as bad type and if Mr Dutch ends up having it we really hope he has that one because it is treatable. We are sending comforting purrs and prayers to your aunt too - we know how hard it is when your furbaby is sick.

ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about Mr. Dutch's mast cell diagnosis. It is a very aggressive disease, but surgical excision of the mass is possible, and though the rate of recurrence is high, by supporting the cat through optimum nutrition, and certain holistic modalities such as acupuncture, you can buy more time and the cat can enjoy reasonably good quality of life.
ReplyDeleteThe cat kids will be purring for Mr. Dutch.
