Furball Freakout

I am a pretty quiet in the meow department. I found most things can be said with a simple squeak - or better yet a little nip. I find nothing wraps a human around your paw like the silent squeak.

The only time I sing out is when I get frustrated - which is pretty frequently. It's hard to figure everything out when you're still a kitten. I want to get onto things and into things and I can't always - so I voice my displeasure - who wouldn't?

There I was, enjoying a nice nap on my office chair while snoopervising Mom's work effort earlier. Suddenly I felt this odd feeling. I felt like I might need to expel something.

I started to growl/howl really loud. Mom started to panic! I started to claw at my cheek with my paw. Then she really started to freak the fluff out! She thought I was choking on something and was trying to check my mouth. I just kept on howling.

Then I just stopped and was perfectly fine. I looked at her like she was a nut (she is) and had a nice bath.

Mom sent Dad immediately to get some hairball goop. I had already turned down the first kind they brought home to try. I guess Angel Fin loved it. Me? Not so much. So now Mom is spreading to on the my treats - she's calling it buttering the bread. Meh, I'll still eat them.

Mom's Note: Seriously I was freaked out!! I have never heard him sound like that and then he was perfectly fine a minute later. He started a furball cough a couple days before but nothing happened and then this.

  1. Yikes, that would freak me out too! I can't get Leo to eat hairball stuff either, and he refuses treats!
I hope Quill gets over whatever this is soon!

  3. My cat makes a distinctive yowling cry before he throws up grass. I usually have enough time to get him away from carpet to do it lol. A couple times he has been put in the shower9no water running!) for easy cleanup

  4. Quill--work on the timing, buddy! 3 AM is the BEST time for Ye Olde howl-n-yak. Talk about excitement!

  5. OH! That *does* sound scary! We would probably freak out, too, Quill!

  6. None of my crew will take any form of hairball remedy. They also don't howl prior to throwing-up, so I have very little advance warning. What Quill did would freak me out too.
Note to Quill: the best time to unload your hairball is around 2:00 am and in the center of the bathroom doorway. You will be sure to get someones' attention & get your point across.

  7. Quill, we're not too fond of the hairball goop either...but having it on some treats sounds good!!

  8. Quill, I can only imagine how your mom felt when you were crying and pawing at your cheek!

"Buttering" the treats with the hairball goop sounds like a great idea.

  9. Poor Megz, Ms. Stella (all 6 lbs of her) meyowls so loud before a yak that it literally makes me run to her for fear that she's been impaled by something. It's horrifying! I feel you.

  11. Humans do freak out over these things, Quill, and of course you can't blame them! Are you sure you are okay? That nothing is stuck in there? Is, uh, everything moving through your system okay? Just wondering, 'cause if not, maybe you SHOULD be checked out.

  14. Some cats do a howling noise before throwing up. We sure hope you are all right. You probably just had a little pain in the tummy. We would have had a panic attack too Quill.
    Take care. No more howling.

  15. If Quill is anything like Dante, he likely has a variety of sounds he can make, from a very high-pitched squeak to a gutteral yowl.

Domino has been having bad hairball problems lately, and I spread some of the goop on her paws (which was one of the suggested methods of dispensing it). This seems to work better than anything else I've tried. Of course you have to rub the goop in a little so it doesn't fall off in a clump.

  16. Poor Quill, furballs are no fun. We yowl before we yak them up. Mum remembers the first time I yakked when I was little and I hissed and growled like a mad thing.

We have hairball gunk smeared on our paws but we both like it and would lick it from the tube.
