An Idea

So Mom and I were talking about having a fun activity tied into the games about to take place in Vancouver. Mom loves the games and the way the whole world seems to come together. It's the only sports she watches and she loves to watch all the obscure sports best (go curling and white-water rafting!).

We love Friday Night Fights at Cat Of Nine Tails when they do a play-by-play of all the kitty fight action. It made us think that Cat-O-Lympics (or Pet-O-Lympics) might be really fun.Shaggy mentioned that there was something similar in the cat blogosphere a couple of years ago. We're not sure who did it originally or how, and you know Mom and I are pretty loose in our interpretations on a theme so it will likely be different, but fun to enjoy again.

Mom and I had some ideas about posts during the games for the H.C. where we could add a play-by-play to things like jumping, wrestling, and ice hockey (I love chasing those cubes). Maybe some less traditional sports like napping, whapping, and pouncing. We know you'll think of great things too... videos, action pics, flag design, or insert your cool idea here.

Maybe different bloggers could host specific events and report on who was participating? Mom is a horrible organizer so we welcome anyone who wants to join in with ideas.

  1. My mom loves biathalon...so maybe I can figure out a way to combine THoE with bug catching.

  2. this sounds like fun. Mom says we'll try to participate, but she doesn't have time to organize anything.

  3. A non traditional sport here is watching and catching invisible floaty stuff in the air!

  4. We love the idea. Baby loves to show how high she can leap in just one jump.

  5. We LOVE games!!! Through the magic of Photoshop I can do ANY olympic sport you know! And I'm so good at napping and whapping, I won't even need to work out ahead of time.

Count us in! We'll help in any way you need.

  10. Great idea! Our mom, however, is so NOT creative. It's embarrassing, really, all these funny blogs and she's totally useless with OUR blog.

We'll look forward to your games, though!

  11. Sounds like fun. We think the earlier Cat-Olympics was four years ago because it was just before we started blogging. It must have been to coincide with the last winter Olympics.

  12. Our Mom LOVES Olympics too! Her brother and father were both participants in them and she went to Australia in 2000 to see her brother compete, so she's definitely interested in cat Olympics! Maybe one specific day could be an event, and then you, Fin, could judge?

  13. We would love to participate...but I was really disappointed to learn that curling wasn't the same as curling up! Maybe it could be for us!

  14. We 3 cats would participate. We can enter Boru in the "chase and kill Jenny" event. Alex can win any "snort while licking your butt" contest and Jenny can win any speed event while Boru is chasing her. Then we have the 10 woofs to consider. We'd do POK as long as you have winter snow andgels making for J.E.B. and a bitey face event for Radar and Sophie. The other woofs all have their own talents that we would make use of in any such games.

  17. You have lots and lots of great ideas.

Our Domino likes to play hockey with a hazelnut (in the shell) and our little Oriental cabinet. She often gets goals by whapping the nut underneath the cabinet, but then has a hard time getting it out again.

The boys don't like to join in, but they like to wrassle, too!

  18. Can eating cheese be classed as a sport? You have to move your jaws and occasionally stand on your hind legs to get it.

  19. We love curling too! We're gonna try to think of something neato to do:)

  22. We went back to the site Derby mentioned and boy did it bring back memories. That was 2005. Many of the organizers aren't blogging anymore and a few of the kitties competing have gone to the bridge.
It was quite simple, nothing elaborate like you can do now.
We say Go For It and Have Fun!

  24. Memories, memories. I was a competitor and in fact I won the Gold Medal in High Jump. Ahhh, those were the days.

You should announce this at TCB, Fin. Although many of the previous participants aren't blogging, lots of us still are.

  26. Personally I think it's disgraceful how they have managed to keep Felines from participapting in the Curling Competition!

We are nothing if not expert curlers!

Curling up our whiskers,, curling up our tails, curling up our toes, and most importantly....curling up for a nap! ;-D
