I know Mom complains, often, that I wake her up at all hours of the morning. Sometimes it's 2am and 4:30am the next night might be 12am and 3am. I like to mix it up, keep her guessing is my motto.
One thing that never changes, no matter how much she complains, is the start of the day time. 5:30am. Everyday. Most days, the days she goes to that place she calls work, she welcomes my persistence. On the weekend things are a bit different.
The classic struggle begins. I like to run a tight ship, and I don't care for a lot of guff.
I used to get quite irritated at her lounging in the bed till the uncodly hour of 8am, snoring to raise the roof. I used to knock things off the bed side table till she could no longer ignore me. At first when we started our creative collaboration and I thought it was a fluke, but now I've realized something critical, this is the best time to pass her my ideas. Planting tiny seeds of inspiration in the semi-fertile soil.
At 5:30am I take up my place on the bed side table and I quietly meow into her ear. Not loud enough to fully wake her, but just enough to keep her in a semi-conscious state. She wakes up full of creative ideas, even brags about how she gets her best ideas while she's dreaming during these early hours.
Yep. It's all you Mom. I like to think I'm going to help her to break through many a creative block with my new method.
It's already working. We've come up with the idea for the new cat book we're going to be working on next! More news to come soon but we're both super excited, and the best part is that we're hoping you're going to help us.
I can't wait to find out more about your human's new book, Fin! I know she would NEVER have come up with the story (or any other idea, for that matter), without your help in the mornings!
ReplyDeleteMy mon just ignores me when I try to wake her to tell her my ideas. Sometimes she gets up long enough to ban me from the room, so I have to tell her my ideas through the door.

Mom and I still trying to figure out why humans have KHATS!

Alex the Maine Coon cat does the wake duty in our house but he isn't anywhere as subtle as you say you are. Alex has a very loud meow, or whine as we like to call it. He'll start at about 0500 and that usually sets off Sophie with a series of barks to tell Alex to shut-up but which really serves Alex's purpose of waking up dad. On weekdays he complies and gets up to do the animal chores before heading off to work. On weekends it results in all of the dogs be throen outside into the paddock. In the better weather we all get to stay out until dad gets up and brings us back in for breakfast. And Alex, of course, gets to stay inside even though he was the instigator; go figure.

Good helping with the creative ideas, Fin. Looking forward to hearing more.
ReplyDeleteIt's so selfless of you Fin, to meow creative ideas into your moms ears so sweetly that she wakes up believing the ideas are her own. Fin, you are the master!
ReplyDeleteMeow....hi there Fin. I'm sure your mom appreciates your help and not mind the flexy time you practise. You are indeed an inspurrration to us all. If ever they make a movie of your book, may I play you? purrrr.....meow!

Sounds like yoo are VERY helpful and inspirational! MOL!
ReplyDeleteWhenever Austin starts with his creative ideas, I tell him to go away, write them down and submit them in triplicate so we can discuss them at the next "bored" meeting. Young parvenu!
ReplyDeleteFin you should let your Mom rest in her misconceptions - as well as the mornings. A frazzled Mom is not a pretty sight!
Looking forward to the new book :) Austin is still reading the first one - there was a claw-stuck-in-kindle incident which was a bit distressing, so he's developed a bit of a phobia. I am very happy to read it to him though :)

ReplyDeleteWe bet it is a wonderful idea, since it is yours Fin.
ReplyDeleteWow, Fin, this is exciting! Of course you're her inspurration, her Muse!
ReplyDeleteFin, sounds like we have a very similar human wake-up routine. Do you pounce on her toes through the blanket too? If you haven't tried that...you should. It's one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteWe can't wait to hear about your new book idea!
Hey Fin, I have been inspired by you and have taken to singing to our foster kittens through the door several times during the night. My mum loves it, because sometimes she joins in, too.
ReplyDeleteFui has wake up duties in our house. You can't argue with 7.5kg of tabby on your chest.
We can't wait to hear about your next book :)
We're looking forward to hearing more about your new book - how clever to use the pre-awake- properly time to give your mum bood ideas - we use ours to get an early breakfast!!
ReplyDeleteyou do make us laugh - we loved your explanation and turned to Mrs H so she can see what it all means too (we never thought to pass over ideas in this way but will try that tonight!). Love Darcy, Bingley and Helen xxx
ReplyDeleteFin, she totally couldn't do anything without you.
ReplyDeleteOOoh, new BOOK? Mommy loved the first one..she's sure to love this one too.

Oh Whooopeee, Fin, for helping your Mom to start a new cat book. We would be more than glad to help. We can't wait. Glad you have started to wake her slowly. Hope you have a super day.
ReplyDeleteBehind every successful Mom is a Genius Cat.
ReplyDeleteFin...make sure you get the credits for these early morning strokes of genius, ok!
ReplyDeleteFin,
ReplyDeleteYou certainly have some fantastic ideas. Thank you for sharing them with us, although I'm not so sure I'm going to pass them on to "The Boys".
As it is, Mikey already will walk around on my hip when he thinks it's my time to get up!
Your new book inspirations sounds exciting, though.
Good job keeping your mom in line, Fin!! We can't wait to hear more about this new book...and how we might help!!
ReplyDeleteHi Fin! Wow your mom gets up so early! Even on work days our mom is in bed til at least 6:30 - weekends we don't even know what time it is - like the middle of the day! We think you are smart to run such a tight ship. We also think you are smart to give your mom ideas when she is asleep - maybe we will try that some time at our house!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting, a new book? Maybe you could try what CocoBean does, and gently brush your whiskers against your mom's face in the early morning?
ReplyDeleteJust a suggestion to help in your mom's inspurrations....it helps our mom a lot.

ReplyDeleteyou can definitely count on my help! :)
ReplyDeleteHow smart of you to whisper subliminsl messages into your mom's ear while she sleeps! We should try that!
ReplyDeleteA new book!!! How wonderful!! The last one was wonderful!! We can't wait! Thanks for letting us know Fin...and thanks for giving your mom the ideas! Lots of love, Holly and mom
