Couch Conversations

Mom: Fin I'd like to have a conversation with you about your nighttime schedule. It's not really working for me. You wake me up at 4:30am to have your breakfast and then again at 5:30am so I can go to work. I'd like to propose you just combine the two.

Fin: Well it's no picnic for me either Mom. I would like to nap after my meal. It's challenging to stay awake for that hour so I can meow in your ear till you get up. I think this is a great idea actually. You can just feed me at 4:30am and then stay awake. I can get right to my first nap! Ya know this is a great idea Mom!

Mom: No! That's not what I had in mind.

Fin: No? Whatever could you have meant?

  2. Sheesh. Moms are so thick! If she was any kind of servant, she'd feed you at 4 AM, just so you could get a jump on your nap.

  3. At least you HAVE a schedule, Fin! Everyday I'm left guessing when my next meal will be. That Glogirly needs to walk a mile in my paws.

  4. Greetings Fin,

Boy did I have a laugh on this one.

Dad and I had a talk about this and we came up with a compromise. There is a dish for me of some nibbles every evening in the master bed room where I also stay, of course in the middle of the bed. This way I just go a few steps, have my nibbles when ever I wish.

    Give it a try.

    Wishing you all the best,
    Miss Kitty

  5. Sounds like a good idea to us. She could stay up and do some chores before going to work.....like holding you and gently stroking your furs whilst you nap.

  8. It makes purrfect sense to us, Fin. After all, getting up before or by 4AM and staying up works for our own mom!

[Mom here: No. No, it does not. My under-eye dark circles have dark circles of their own. Oh, and thanks, Nicki, for waking me at 3AM and keeping me awake.]

  9. Hoomins just refuse to be clear and reasonable about what they want... bad communicators, that's all. Have patience, Fin.

  10. Huffle is right..some mom's are not going to be pleased no matter your proposition. I start sounding the meow horn long about 5:30. She thinks petting me will quieten me. I trifle with her by being silent a few minutes and then, starting the cycle agaon. She naps quickly in between the alerts I wound.

  11. Fin, I think your Mom has forgotten that a couple of weeks ago, things were much worse for her. Now she is really asking too much. She should go to bed an hour earlier and just get up at 4:30 am and be done with it.

  12. We thought your plan was the purrfect solution, Fin! We can't believe she thought something different!

  13. There's no way of helping mums sometimes - they always want to take the most difficult approach.
When they realise we are ALWAYS right life will be much easier for them.

  14. Just goes to show how selfish humans are. After your breakfast, you need your rest and shouldn't have to re-awaken her!

  15. Fin, Don't give in. You need that breakfast at 4:30 in the morning. Then you and Mom can nap until 5:30. That is a great plan. Hope it works for you. Do not give in.

  17. Fin your tail is looking especially fat and delightful today. Clearly the irritation of the whining, sleep deprived Mommy have not rattled your furs.

  19. We don't understand why your Mom doesn't agree. After all, you need to get your nap time in as soon as you can!

  20. Hi Fin! Wow, we didn't realize our mom had it so easy - she gets up at 6:30 and feeds us and gets ready for work then. Sure, Stella will try to get her up early, but she usually just goes back to sleep anyway. We will be showing her this post so she can see how easy she really has it!
